Manila, Philippines

Manila

Known by the neighboring provinces, Ginto (which means land of gold) was the first known name for Manila and was officially called the Kingdom of Maynila. During the Ming Dynasty the Kingdom of  Maynila flourished as a result of trade relations with China. During the Manila-Acapulco galleon trade, which made Manila famous for three centuries, goods were brought in as far away as Mexico and Peru.
The Philippines were ceded by Spain to the United states in 1898 and Daniel Burnham was invited by the new government to plan a new, more modern, Manila. The Burnham plan was doomed by president Manuel L. Quezon by creating a new capital outside Manila known as Quezon City.

In the 1970’s and early 1980’s tourism flourished in the Philippines, but declined in the late 1980’s. The government recorded, from January to September of 2009, that 5.2 million tourists have visited the country, as there are many famous spots in Manila for them to enjoy. The modern look of Manila today is Makati City that has the best skyline in the country and outside of Manila, is the most visited province named Aklan, that’s known for its beautiful beaches. There are many museums in and around Manila, one of these is the National Museum of the Philippines that exhibits the life, culture and history of the country.

Although basketball is one of the main sports in Manila, they also have one of the largest baseball stadiums in the country. Billiards is another popular sport, at the Robinson Place in Manila, is where the 2010 World Cup of Pool was hosted. In July 2011 the Philippines will be playing Sri Lanka at the Rizal Memorial Track and Football Stadium, this being  the first FIFA World Cup to be qualified for in decades.

Canada

When visiting Canada’s top vacation spots, a traveler might want to figure out what type of experience they want to have while on their vacation. Relaxing and fine dining with extraordinary wine, or hiking and kayaking through the rough terrain. If wine and food is the choice, then one of the must see sites in Canada is the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival. The festival is a fund raiser for the company and it is considered the largest in the world. Some people that attend the festival are winemakers, owners and representatives  from wineries around the world. Some of the attractions include wine tasting and exquisite cuisine for dinner and lunch. The festival is a great experience for the novice wine lover and food taster.

If a person  wants to find places to explore in Canada, a hike along the Far East coast is a rugged and fascinating experience along the shores of Newfound. It is 540 km long and takes a hiker to the end of North America. Along the way is a suspension bridge, light houses, historical sites and is a wilderness paradise. There are communities and lodgings along the way that will help hikers with necessities such as rooms, food and supplies they might need to finish their adventure.

To choose from over 41 Canadian National parks, the thing to consider, is what type of park experience is one looking for. Is it the organic outdoors, hiking. kayaking, exploring, history or just relaxing and enjoying the great outdoors with the northern lights of Canada.

Marketing on Craigslist 101

Marketing on Craigslist 101

f_11310582945_womanworkingathome.jpg
Since its launch in 1995 Craigslist.org has quietly become the largest online classifieds website in the world with a regional presence in 190 cities, across 35 countries. Each month over 10 million people log on to the seventh most popular website to buy and sell just about everything. From real estate to furniture, promoting services such as contracting, house cleaning and even babysitting — Craigslist is the one spot where anyone can connect regionally to fill a need.
As its popularity has continued to increase, so have the possibilities for vendors large and small to market their wares on Craigslist. What’s the big attraction? For the most part Craigslist is 100% free to post and search. Only do job postings in San Francisco, L.A and New York City cost a small fee to post. Otherwise, Craigslist is an open free source for new targeted customers, ripe for the picking, just waiting for your business to give them what they want.
Craigslist is regionally based website that truly promotes community involvement. However, you can post in any of the available metros and multiple metros as well. The trick is in designing an ad that gets people attention, getting on a regular posting schedule, following the rules (or at least not overtly breaking them) and searching for new customers daily.
Simplicity in ad design is paramount and it matches the vibe that Craigslist likes to attract — peer-to-peer, real human interaction. It lacks the commercial aspects that add fluff and confusion in exchange for simple ads, most posted by real folks. Design your ad to fit into that scheme is key to a successful campaign.
Get into the habit of posting often on Craigslist and hit multiple metros with different ads to get more reach (if you business can support it). It’s free to post so what do you have to lose!
Understanding Craigslist rules are fairly simple as they are openly published. They are super picky about what you can post, but there are exceptions like livestock and anything illegal (drugs, guns, etc.). One of the major rules that I see as a marketing rule more than a terms of service rule is to post in the category that best corresponds with your product type. This ensures your ad will reach the best target without adding to useless clutter.
Over 8 million people post monthly on Craigslist and that number grows every day. Don’t just sit back and post ads, answer ads seeking your products and services as well.
Craigslist is one of the best ways for every business, large and small to find a new voice online for little more than elbow grease.

What Woke Up The Bear Market?

What Woke the Bear Market?
Recent stock market declines have pushed U.S. markets down nearly 20% from their highs this past spring. A 20% decline is commonly called a bear market, and as usual, this one emerged suddenly and without much warning. Since bear market declines happen regularly -- an average of every three to four years -- you'll undoubtedly experience many bear markets as a long-term investor. But each one can be unnerving, so it's important to review bear market survival strategies whenever one starts.
Bear markets frequently start because fears dominate fundamentals. Basically, what people think may happen overshadows what's actually happening. This time, the fears that pushed the stock market into bear territory aren't new, and they've largely been responsible for the volatile markets we've experienced since early August. The two major concerns are:

  • High government debts -- This is especially troublesome in eurozone countries. This week's decline was sparked by Greece's projection that it will miss deficit reduction targets required for additional bailout funds.
  • Slower economic growth -- Many people are worried that the U.S., Europe and emerging markets will stumble into recession, based on several months of mixed economic news.
Greece at the Center of European Debt Concerns
Greece's deteriorating situation has made headlines almost daily, scoring one for fear over fundamentals. Like sitting through a commercial break in your favorite TV program, markets have grown increasingly anxious for a resolution to the euro debt crisis. Unfortunately, there is no fast forward button. European policymakers are working on a plan, but they've been moving slowly. The markets move quickly and don't react well if they have to wait for decisions. This frustration creates volatility, and as we all know, the commercial breaks often seem to get longer. So in the interim, it may be awhile before the program returns.

    Encouraging Manufacturing Data Went Unnoticed

The latest disappointment from Greece also threw a wet blanket on better-than-expected U.S. economic news, which showed manufacturing activity picked up in September. Notably, this number remained above the all-important 50 level, which indicated a slowly growing economy and not an outright recession.
While the economic indicators are likely to remain mixed, additional evidence suggesting the economy remains on a path of modest growth could help soothe recession fears and relieve pressure on stock prices.
    Surviving Bear Markets
Although the start of a bear market can raise worries about what's to come, remember, market pullbacks, like commercial breaks, are normal and happen regularly. Bear markets are rarely as severe as the one we experienced in 2008, but surviving any bear market requires patience, discipline and controlling your emotions. In fact, you may be able to use the situation to your advantage by:

  • Looking for opportunities to add quality investments that have lower prices due to the recent sell-off
  • Working to ensure your portfolio is appropriately balanced and diversified to help better weather the volatility that is likely to continue in the near term

Consider what strategies may be appropriate for you.

Christina has the curves to play Mae west.
I would love to see a vote on this. If anyone thinks Christina could play Mae West, let me hear from you. Leave a comment and I will tally up at the end of the week to see who has eyes and who can't see their nose in front of their face. I for one can not seem to get to the face yet!
    Mae West would be proud.

    Website Business Scam

We have been with Website Business for over 5 months. They set us up with a web site for $499.00 and then the next day they wanted $2,500.00 bucks to be able blog for pay. After a few months they wanted another $5,000.00 to add animation and other things to the site. I kept hem-hawing around and got the package for $2,005.00. We poured our hearts and time out to this site hoping we would be able to make a LITTLE money and revenue off the site. It was fun, me and wife enjoyed the time we spent together writing stories and going over recipes. Then all hell broke lose on Aug. 29, 2011. They closed the doors and left a lot of customers in the cold and no way to keep our sites. Some customers paid in over $20,000.00 dollars for their beloved site, now they have nothing but drama. We are fighting to keep our site and we are pursuing a way to get our money back. If you are a customer of Website Business you need to get in the loop on Facebook. You also need to try and get control of your web site and get some of the money back.

Here are a few links you can check out to see what jerks they are!

Jeter and Kelly No More,So Sad.

It seems like the in-crowd of famous people are breaking up in every part of the entertainment and sports world. Now according to Fox News, the famous Yankee baseball player, Derek Jeter and Minka Kelly are calling it quits after only three years of marriage.  Although their marriage was pretty low key, they seemed to be the subject of rumors about their relationship. Jeter is known to have some pretty wild links to some of the greatest and most gorgeous women known to man, Jessica Biel, Scarlett Johansson, and Mariah Carey, just to name a few. Maybe they just couldn't handle the pressure of Kelly starring in the new version of this falls "Charlie's Angles."  And of course, as they all say,"We'll still be friends." Right!

    Earth Quakes and Disasters

There was a shake, rattle and roll in Virgina recently, and we had another in Colorado. What does all this mean? Is anyone keeping track of the way these things are going? Looks like a pattern to me. Maybe we are headed for the great end of the days, come 2012. It is almost like a sci-fi thing if you think about it. My brother -in-law once said, if you saw it on the television, it probably already has happened. One end of the earth is drowning and flooding, thousands are starving and the rest are burning. Maybe we should check more into what these disasters are doing to our world instead of trying to figure out who or what to blame them on. If we keep going like we are, I can't see where things are going to get any better. Do you?

    West Memphis Three

In May of 1993, three Cub Scout boys were murdered and they were only eight years old. The person's found guilty were three men from West Memphis. Their names are Jason Baldwin, Damien Echols and Jessie Misskelly Jr. Jessie was 17 when he was tried in 1994. The other two were tried right after Jessie. Jessie confessed to the murders and was tried separately from the others. At the time the local offials claimed the murders were cult related.

After seventeen years behind bars for their crime, it looks possible that they may be released and set free if they agree to a deal. John Mark Byers, adoptive father of one of the slain boys felt that the three boys were innocent and told the news service: "To me, this is just a cop-out from the state, for not wanting to admit that they made a mistake."

It appears that some new DNA evidence that attorneys for the men, points to their exoneration.

    Taylor Swift Showing it All.

I watched this video, probably more times than I should have, to figure out what scene it reminded me of. Then it dawned on me, didn't something like this happen to Marilyn Manroe in a movie called, The Seven Year Itch, when the trolly car went by and the air burst from under her dress. Oh yea, those were the days when you saw the dress above the knees, it was an erotic moment indeed.

Ever Get The Laughs At The Wrong Time?

Have you ever gotten the laughs so hard you started crying. I know we all have at some time. But, when your in the middle of a news cast and trying to tell a story, it is just plan FUNNY. Anderson Cooper of CNN had it happen to him. He claims that it has never happened before, maybe not on national TV. He was trying to poke fun at French actor Gerard Depardieu when he made the comment. "The cleaning crew should thank their lucky stars this wasn't De-part-two," that was it. He started laughing so hard the tears came to the eye's and he could hardly talk. Go ahead watch it here and I'll bet you'll at least giggle.

Nevin Shapiro, Providing Benefits to Players in Miami?

Nevin claimed he paid for sex parties, nightclubs and cars as benefits to some Miami Hurrican ball players. He also said he gave money, jewelry, televisions and other gifts to a list of players, including   Jon Beason, Devin Hester and Willis McGahee. Around the time Tyrone Moss was entering his college year, he accepted $1,000.00 from Nevin.

Shapiro was involved in other sports with Miami and claims to have recruited a lot of players for this franchise. Shapiro told the Yahoo! Sports: "Hell yeah, I recruited a lot of  kids for Miami," "I did it because I could." "and because nobody stepped in to stop me."

    Kim Kardashian

So, it looks like Kim is getting married. I was so hoping to meet her some day. Dream on. Kim and her fiancee Kris Humphries got engaged last May and are already preparing for an August wedding. They say the engagment ring has a 20.5 carat diamond in it and cost about half of what Kim's mansion is worth.

It looks like their will be about 1000 guests at this event, although Ryan Seacrest dismissed this rumor, he believes that it would be just overwhelming to have that many guest. Kim said her dress would be somewhat old Hollywood and the nuptials would be held in Los Angeles.  As myself and other fans of  Kim's, we are anticipating the wedding day and maybe another video.

    Beer Can Collecting

The St. Louis Globe Democrat ran an article on October 20, 1969 about a man named Denver Wright Jr. who collected beer cans and was local to the area. When six other St. Louis collectors read the article they realized that they were not the only ones that were interest in beer cans. One of those collectors was Larry Wright, the brother of Denver Wright Jr. After the seven collectors began to visit each others’ homes and viewing their collections, they decided to form an organized club. They were hoping that people with the same interest would want to join the club. The Beer Can Collectors of America was then founded on April 15, 1970.

There are many factors that come into play when a collector decides to sell his cans and has to assess the value of them. It’s obvious to the collector that the rare cans are in small supply and that this makes them more valuable than the common cans that are in large supply. Demands are high for a flat top can, a container that was produced in 1935 by the American Can Company. Another sought after can was known as a cone top can, this can was marketed by the Continental Can Company and was available around 1936. In determining the value of a collection of cans, the condition is very important. According to the Beer Can Collectors of America, cans are graded from 1+, which is for mint condition, to a 5, which is very rusty, scratched, faded, dented and/or full of holes.

The internet has made the hobby of collecting beer cans a great success. Anyone with an interest in buying, selling or just collecting them for fun, can connect with others any where in the world who shares the same passion of collecting old or new beer cans.

    The Triple-A Club

Because their governments are considered stable and their bonds are safe the triple-a club is able to borrow at a low cost. Since the United States has been kicked out of this club there are still quit a few still in it. Norway, Sweden, Germany, France, Canada and even the Isle of Man are just a few of them that are considered to have the stamp of approval. Currently the lowest rated country in the world is Greece.

What will happen with the stock market today is any ones guess, but I feel it will be a long, long, long time before the United States will get back on it’s feet.

    Racing With Danica Patrick

The Associated Press has reported that Danica Patrick may be able to drive the Nationwide Serious schedule with JR Motorsports and a limited Sprint Cup Series with Tony Stewarts team. She would still be able to drive in the Indianapolis 500. Danica has driven, in the last two seasons, 19 Nationwide races. In 2009 she finished third place at the Indy 500 but is winless in 19 Nationwide races. Although third place is not bad since she is the third highest paid woman in racing. Dale Earnhardt said, “ She’s way ahead of the curve. I’m excited about what the potential is with her going forward.”

    Raised Debt, Spend More

According to Fox News  the debt is saved for now. Who are we fooling, this is just a band-aid on the continuing sore that grows in our country.  Obama said, “ Washington has the ability to focus when there’s a timer ticking and when there’s a looming disaster.” Hello! When did the clock start and now what, we can kick back, spend more borrowed money, until another crisis comes along. The clock has not stopped ticking, the crisis is still going on and now is the  time for our Government to get this mess straightened out for our people. We are a strong country and we have been through a lot. Lets put our money back into America and the hell with everyone else. What are your opinions?

    Randy Moss Retires

I was looking forward to football this season. A few days ago no one knew if there was going to be a season at all. With all the switching around going on, there is one thing that’s for sure. WR Randy Moss is hanging up his uniform and retiring this year and he is only 34 years old. His career has been outstanding with various teams he has played for. He is tied with Jerry Rice on scores, grabs and yards rushing. He will be missed in the league as a player, but always remembered as one of the greats. Who knows, he should make it to the Hall of Fame.

    Lily Anderson, Game Opener

The National Anthem still gives me goose bumps and when I saw Lily Anderson sing this beautiful piece of American history, opening the Atlantic Braves game at Turner Field on Thursday night, I was awestruck and amazed. As a young girl fighting cancer for over half her life, you would never know that she faces the struggles that life has dealt her, belting out this wonderful song without a flaw and a beautiful smile at the end, what more can you ask for! I can only say that many a lesson can be learned from this wonderful young lady, who is one of my many heroes and my prayers go out to her to make a full recovery, the sooner the better! Please check out the links and enjoy her singing.

    Another Day In Limbo

As the senate nixed a compromise late last night against the house of representatives, Obama pleaded with both parties to come to a quick solution as our deadline approaches us all too quickly, this Tuesday. Not only was it hot outside in Washington D.C. today, it was also hot inside as the senate and congress continue to battle over our country’s future. Majority leader Harry Reid’s bill was rejected by many of the Republican senators and they told him that it did not do enough to get us out of fiscal crisis. This afternoon the congress will cast their vote in order to stop Mr. Reid’s bill before it has a chance to make it to the senate.  And the saga continues….according to Yahoo News.

    Marijuana Comlex Uprooted

Much to the chagrin of those who like to smoke marijuana, another huge plant farm has been busted in the Mendocino National Forest situated in northern California. After only a two week operation, that included sheriff departments from 6 different counties and federal agents working together, over 400,000 marijuana plants were yanked from the ground, and pot that had been already processed was seized along with guns and vehicles in yet another victory for our law enforcement. With many arrested, it was another thorn in the sides of those who like to break the law and use our public lands for illicit purposes!
